Sports Business Daily: Your Name Here: Title Sponsorships Remain For Seven Cup Races
From the Friday, February 15, 2008 edition of the Sports Business Daily
Heading into the '08 NASCAR Sprint Cup season, seven races remain
without title sponsors, excluding the Daytona 500 and the two races at
Pocono Raceway, which are not actively seeking a title sponsor. Of
these seven, each had title sponsors last year, five of which were
one-year deals. Both races at Dover Speedway are still seeking title
sponsors, with the June 1 race currently the only Fox telecast without
a title sponsor. Last season, the same race signed a one-year deal to
name the event the Autism Speaks 400. The title sponsorship gained
$2.8M worth of exposure on Fox, which ranked fifth among the 12 Fox
telecasts last year with title sponsors, according to research by
K.C.-based sponsorship measurement firm Image Impact. Three races in
the Chase for the Sprint Cup are also among the events without title
sponsors. The companies that were title sponsors for those races on ABC
last year saw a combined $17.4M in exposure. The Chase race at
Martinsville last October 21, which had Subway as a title sponsor, saw
the company earn $6.1M in exposure value, tops among all title sponsors
for Chase races, and fifth among all title sponsorships in the Cup
series last year. Martinsville plans on announcing a new sponsor later
this season, while Subway will sponsor only the April race in Phoenix
on Fox, which earned them $4.9M in exposure last year.
